Description:Macaca cyclopis (Formosan macaques; Formosan rock-monkey) is widely distributed from level ground to dense natural forests of 325 meters high in Pingding Mountain, Chukou. They are group animals and have their own territories under control. Therefore, it is difficult to calculate the exact number in a group of Formosan macaques. They appear near the rocks or the sources of water and linger by the industry road sometimes to look for food. They mainly eat fruits of plants, leaves, tender buds and grass stems and catch insects, snails and bird eggs for meals once in a while. As they often sabotage fruit farms, local residents plant tea trees instead of fruit trees. |
