This type of nectar source plant is grown everywhere in this region. There are four mango trees and one Ficus microcarpa L. (a type of banyan) in Pingdng tribe center with an age of hundreds of years. The tree is several meters high with thick branches and leaves. Currently, it is still blossoming and bearing fruit. The ground was paved with cement around the old tree and a short fence was built. A hexagonal pavilion, Jhangshouting (Pavilion of Longevity), is under the tree and stone tables and chairs are installed nearby, where becomes a recreation and entertainment place for the villagers. The author was born here, climbed the tree, played under the shade and ate its fruit when I was a child. People call it Wufushenmu (Divine Tree of Five Fortunes) and give it a respected name of Shezihgong. The ancestors built houses with logs and logs came from trees. Thus, they respected and worshipped the trees providing wood. As the saying goes: You must give thanks to the tree before you eat the fruit it bears. The author pays extraordinary respect towards these five big trees due to special affections on them! |
