Description:Camphor trees, the county tree of Yunlin County, are the most famous indigenous tree in Taiwan. Camphor trees are everywhere in the mountains below 2,000 meters around the island. They have plenty of branches and their tree crowns pile up irregularly, which is good at soundproofing. Besides, they are capable of resisting extreme air pollution and exuberant all the year round. Thus, camphor trees should be planted at places with busy traffic. According to documentary records, camphor trees can not only be used as medicine, but also a good material for carving. Few mosquitoes and insects linger at the places where camphor trees appear as a unique fragrance emits from the trees. Camphor trees are evergreen arbores with alternate oval shaped leaves. The apex is sharp and the caudex is wedge shaped. The entire or wavelike margins have long leafstalks. The yellowish green little flowers have panicles with axils and berries that turn to purple black when becoming ripe. |
